EUROLAB hosts successful webinar on Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) and Challenges for Laboratories in International Trade

On October 2 EUROLAB hosted a highly engaging and informative webinar titled Mutual Recognition Agreements on Conformity Assessment and Challenges Faced by Laboratories in the EU and International Export Markets.” The event brought together numerous participants, including laboratory professionals, policymakers, and industry stakeholders, to explore the vital role of MRAs in facilitating international trade and the challenges laboratories face in this complex landscape.

The keynote address was delivered by Lucian Cernat, Head of Unit at DG Trade, European Commission, who provided valuable insights into the impact of MRAs on reducing barriers to global trade and promoting regulatory alignment. Dorina Nati from UNIDO shared a global perspective on how MRAs contribute to building capacity in developing regions.

A distinguished panel discussion followed, featuring industry experts Steve Sydney (NLA-South Africa), Irache Visier Sanz (EUROLAB-Spain), and Alexander Šafařík-Pštrosz (EUROLAB-CZ), who shared practical experiences and strategies for overcoming technical and regulatory challenges faced by laboratories in export markets.

Key topics covered during the webinar included:

  • The role of MRAs in streamlining product approval processes and reducing duplication of testing and certification.

  • The regulatory hurdles and differing standards that laboratories must navigate to comply with international export requirements.

  • Best practices for leveraging MRAs to enhance the competitiveness of laboratories and facilitate smoother access to global markets.

The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session where participants had the opportunity to ask the panelists questions about their experiences and the future of MRAs in the global trade environment.

We want to thank all the speakers, panelists, and participants for their contributions to this successful event!
